NDRRMC: Death toll in 6.9-magnitude quake in Mindanao rises to nine

(Eagle News) — The death toll in the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Mindanao on Sunday, Dec. 15, has risen to nine.

Based on a report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 111 were also injured while two were missing–one from Davao and the other from SOCCSKSARGEN.

Authorities have already ended operations at a grocery store in Padada that collapsed following the quake with an epicenter nine kilometers west of Matanao.

As of Tuesday, the death toll was at seven–one in Matanao, one in Magsaysay, one in Hagonoy, one in Bansalan and three in Padada.

President Rodrigo Duterte was in Davao City with his family when the quake struck, but the Palace said he and his loved ones were unharmed.

Last October, Mindanao was hit by a series of strong tremors, the strongest at magnitude-6.6 on Oct. 29.
