NDF leaders say they understand Duterte, still want to pursue peace talks

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News)  — Communist leaders said that they don’t have any negative feedback on President Rodrigo Duterte’s remark calling them “terrorists”.

National Democratic Front consultant Luis Jalandoni said that they understand that this was just an emotional reaction from the President and that they still believe in the President’s desire for peace talks.

“Baka reaksiyon lang ‘yan. Earlier, malakas ang sinabi ni Presidente na gusto niya magkaroon ng peace talks at maresolve ang mga problema gaya ng land reform, national industrialization, poverty . It could be just a reaction. Earlier, the President said he wants peace talks to solve problems like land reform, national industrialization, poverty,” Jalandoni said.

During the weekend, President Duterte lifted the six-month unilateral ceasefire as well as suspended the peace negotiations with the communists after the NDF terminated its unilateral ceasefire with the government.
