MANILA, Philippines — PAGASA, the country’s weather bureau, placed more areas under the “red” rainfall warning signal as of 12 noon Friday. In its latest advisory, Metro Manila and five more nearby provinces namely Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Batangas.
Expect severe flooding in these areas as they are forecast to experience more than 30 millimeters of torrential rains per hour in the next two hours. This is equivalent to eight gallons of rainwater being dumped per square meter per hour.
The orange warning signal is raised in Quezon, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Oriental Mindoro and Northern Palawan in Luzon, and the provinces of Antique and Aklan in Visayas, with intense rains from 15 to 30 millimeters being dumped per hour in the last hour. This means these areas are receiving up to four gallons of rainwater per square meter per hour. PAGASA said such intense rains would persist in the next two hours.
PAGASA raised the yellow warning signal in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija, with possible flooding in low-lying areas because of heavy rains. An area is placed under “yellow” warning signal if it is observed to have 7.5 to 15 millimeters of rain in the last hour. This is equivalent to two gallons of rainwater/per square meter being dumped in an hour.
In the Visayas region, the provinces of Iloilo and Capiz were also placed under the yellow warning signal.
PAGASA also warned the public of landslides in the mountainous areas, particularly those under the red, orange and yellow rainfall warning.
