(Eagle News) — The Sandiganbayan’s fourth division issued an order to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) barring former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima and Special Action Force (SAF) Director Getulio Napeñas Jr., from leaving the country. This was after criminal charges were filed against them for their alleged involvement in the Mamasapano operation that resulted in the deaths of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers.

In an order dated January 27 (Friday), the anti-graft court issued a hold departure order for the former police officials barring them from leaving the Philippines for any destination abroad without written permission from the court.

Napeñas and Purisima were both facing graft charges and usurpation of public functions.

The charges filed by the Office of the Ombudsman against the two former officials are for violation of Section 3a of R.A. 3019, also known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and Usurpation of Authority or Official Function, as stated under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
