Muntinulupa placed under state of calamity

MANILA, July 16 (PNA) — Muntinlupa City has been placed under state of calamity following the onslaught of strong winds and heavy rains on Wednesday brought by typhoon Glenda.

According to Tez Navaro, chief of Public Information Office of Muntinlupa upon the recommendation of local disaster risk reduction management council that presented to the city council in special session on Wednesday afternoon and declared Pasay under state of calamity.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi stressed that it is necessary and urgent to declare the city under a state of calamity so that the immediate relief, and rehabilitation of affected residents can be implemented.

Navarro said initial damage was worth Php15 million.

She also said that 600 families or 3,000 individual still stay in evacuation center.

Navarro added that there was no casualty reported as well as no flooded areas.

The classes are still suspended in all levels on Thursday and the city is still experiencing brownout, Navarro said.
