MPD clarifies manhunt ops only vs 3 primary suspects in hazing victim’s death

Urges other witnesses to come out in open

(Eagle News) — The Manila Police District on Friday clarified that only the three primary suspects in the killing of hazing victim Horacio Castillo III are the subject of manhunt operations so far.

Supt. Erwin Margarejo, MPD spokesperson, said as such, the others who know something about the circumstances that led to Castillo’s death have nothing to be afraid of.

Castillo died of a heart attack due to massive trauma caused by injuries police believe he sustained during  hazing rites performed by the Aegis Juris fraternity based in the University of Sto. Tomas.

The police said the hazing was done as part of the fraternity’s final rites.

“Kung hindi sila si John Paul Solano, Mr. Antonio Trangia, Ralph Trangia, ano ikakatakot natin?” Margarejo said in a press conference.

Clear names

Meanwhile, one UST student surfaced in the MPD headquarters on Friday, saying he was the one seen in video footage with Castillo walking prior to the rites.

The MPD showed the footage to the media in Wednesday’s press conference.

The student, however, denied he was Solano.

Margarejo said two other witnesses have come forward to share information about where the rites could have taken place.

Margarejo did not say what exactly these two witnesses told the police, but initial reports said the rites took place in the Aegis Juris fraternity library near the UST campus.

“Informal messages” from “netizens,” Margarejo said, are also so far being evaluated.
