More MMDA enforcers to be deployed along Edsa for SEA Games

(Eagle News)–Almost 100 Metropolitan Manila Development Authority enforcers will be added to the current deployment of enforcers on Edsa for the Southeast Asian Games.

In a briefing in Manila on Friday, Nov. 29, MMDA Edsa traffic manager Col. Bong Nebrija said the additional 95 enforcers would assist the convoy of delegates going to the Philippine Arena for the biennial event’s opening ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 30.

He said the enforcers, like the 120 enforcers initially deployed, would focus on  the yellow lanes, which are being used by the delegates.

He said the enforcers, instead of the orange cones, would serve as  barricades.

“Huwag na kayo maginsist na dumaan sa yellow lane kasi yun ang priority lane natin para sa mga contingent. Buses wag aabusuhin ang yellow lanes. Follow the enforcers on the ground,” Nebrija said.

He said those caught tailgating would be ticketed for reckless driving.

“Lalo kayong mapeperwisyo,” he said.

“Ang pakiusap lang po ..sana po cooperation. Lagi po naming sinasabi the success of the conduct of the SEA Games particularly the opening ceremony is the success of every Filipino. Atin po ito, national pride po natin ito makita ng ibang bansa na gaano tayo kaayos kapag nagsagawa ng ganitong event,” he added.

Overall, the MMDA has deployed around 2000 enforcers in Metro Manila for the biennial sporting event.

Vehicular congestion is expected during the official opening of the games because of the stop-and-go scheme the MMDA will implement along Edsa and in other parts of Metro Manila.

Nebrija reiterated his appeal for people to stay at home instead and watch the opening ceremony.

Those who are watching in Philippine Arena, he said, should just use the P2P buses that authorities have prepared for the event.

The MMDA and the Manila Traffic Enforcement Unit have also already put in place alternate routes for motorists following the closure of portions of Adriatico St. and P. Ocampo St. Moira Encina, Eagle News Service
