More areas placed under Signal No. 1 as “Usman” moves closer to E. Visayas

(Eagle News)—More areas are now under Signal No. 1 as Tropical Depression “Usman” moved closer toward Eastern Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said  a Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Northern Iloilo and Northern Negros Occidental and Dinagat Island.

PAGASA said Signal No. 1 may also be hoisted over Camarines Norte, southern Quezon, Marinduque, southern Oriental Mindoro, Antique, rest of Iloilo, and Guimaras in the next hours.

PAGASA has said “Usman” was expected to intensify into a tropical storm prior to its landfall over eastern Samar on Friday, Dec. 28.

As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said the center of the tropical depression was situated 450 kilometers east of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, or 440 kilometers east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

“Usman” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility  between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
