Mocha Uson returns UST alumni award

A picture posted on the UST Alumni Association Inc.’s Twitter account on Wednesday, January 23, 2018, shows Chairman Emeritus Dr. Robert Sy and Board Adviser Atty. Jack Castañeda holding the Thomasian Alumni in Government Service award given to them by the Office of Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux “Mocha” J. Uson.

(Eagle News) — Communications Secretary Mocha Uson on Wednesday confirmed she has returned the award she received from the University of Sto. Tomas Alumni Association.

“Kanina lang po, nasauli na…,” she told reporters.

She said the body accepted the award, a picture of which was tweeted by the USTAA.

“Isinauli ko naman po iyon dahil hindi naman po tayo nanghingi ng award na iyon eh. Kaya lang po tinanggap dahil binigay,” she said.

On Tuesday night, Henry Tenedero, president of the USTAA, resigned over the brouhaha created by the body’s conferment of an award for government service to Uson.

Tenedero, however, stood by the USTAA’s decision to give the award to the communications assistant secretary, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medical technology.
