MMDA plans to ban jeeps in EDSA starting next week

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Metro Manila Development Authority on Thursday (February 2) announced its plan to totally ban public utility jeeps from traversing EDSA starting next week.

An estimated 1000 jeepneys will be affected by the MMDA’s new plan.

The plan to ban public utility jeeps in EDSA will make it easier for public buses to travel and will result in the reduction of the over-all traffic in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, MMDA acting Chairman Thomas Orbos said that they will first implement the plan in Guadalupe in Makati.

He also said that the plan to ban the jeepneys in EDSA was agreed with Federation of Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap) and Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas, Inc. (LTOP) in a meeting last week.
