Islamic State also claims responsibility

(Eagle News)–The military on Monday, Jan. 28, said the Abu Sayyaf was behind twin blasts at a Sulu cathedral that left at least 20 dead and 81 injured.
But the Islamic State also claimed responsibility for the attack, which came after the Commission on Elections deemed ratified the Bangsamoro Organic Law that aims to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with the more autonomous Bangsamoro.
The Comelec made the declaration following an overwhelming yes vote from the ARMM, which Sulu is also a part of.
Sulu, however, a bailiwick of Moro National Liberation Front’s Nur Misuari and a place where Abu Sayyaf members exist, had rejected ratification of the BOL.
The Palace had denounced the incident, with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana vowing to implement the full force of the law against the perpetrators.
