Militant group Karapatan says man recently arrested by police in Ozamiz is not Salinas

(Eagle News)– The militant group Karapatan on Friday slammed authorities for what it said was the fake news they peddled about the  arrest of a high-ranking Communist Party of the Philippines official.

Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said the real Rommel Salinas had already been arrested on trumped-up charges way back May 2017, together with  Iglesia Filipina Independiente bishop  Carlo Morales.

The militant group said the two are now detained in the Ozamiz City Jail.

The PNP Northern Mindanao Regional Office, however, said they arrested Salinas in Ozamiz on Thursday.

“We are very sure that this person is a victim of illegal arrest and was directly violated by this government, malamang, pustahan tayo, illegal possession of firearms and explosives (cases) na naman yan,” Palabay said.

The police had said Salinas was the second high-ranking Communist leader to be arrested following the termination of peace talks.

The first to be arrested was Rafael Baylosis.
