MICP employee tested positive for COVID-19, Customs bureau says

(Eagle News)–A Manila International Container Port employee has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019, the Bureau of Customs said on Wednesday, March 25.

In a statement, the BoC said those who had direct contact with the employee, whom it did not identify, were advised to undergo self-quarantine.

Authorities were also already conducting contact tracing.

The BOC added the port would temporarily be closed because the entire MICP building will be disinfected.

Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero said unaffected units of the MICP, which include those that facilitate vessel boarding, examination of goods, and X-ray examination, will still function, however, adding MICP importation would still be processed by  personnel and employees.

He advised stakeholders to use the Customer Care Portal (CCP) to submit their documents  and to use the Goods Declaration and Verification System (GDVS) to monitor the status of their shipments.

The Philippines has so far confirmed 552 cases.
