(Eagle News) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has announced the creation of a council that will study and suggest measures to improve vehicular congestion in the metropolis.
In a statement, the MMDA said the  Metro Manila Transport Consultative Council (MMTCC) would make the suggestions straight to the Metro Manila Council (MMC) for approval.
The MMC is composed of all 17 mayors of cities in Metro Manila.
The MMDA said the MMTCC, which was agreed upon during a consultative meeting with various stakeholders on Thursday (March 9), would be composed of transport leaders, commuters’ safety advocates, motorcycle riders’ organizations, operators of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), and representatives from MMDA, the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Office, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
According to the MMDA, University of the Philippines Professor Clarita Carlos would act as facilitator of the MMTCC.
MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos welcomed the move, saying that the MMTCC would be a “big help to the government in crafting measures…”
He added it was a way to ensure that the transport sector was always consulted.
“We want to get a broad sentiment of the stakeholders and the general public with these consultations,” Orbos said.
