Marcos supporters prepare for late strongman’s burial at LNMB

(Eagle News)– Loyalists of former President Ferdinand Marcos in Batac, Ilocos Norte are making preparations for the near burial of his remains at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani (LNMB).

Loyalists and supporters continue to flock the Marcos mausoleum to see the former president’s remains before his transfer to the national heroes’ cemetery.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday voted 9-5-1, dismissing the consolidated petitions aiming to stop the burial of the late strongman at the LNMB.

Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, one of five judges who ruled against the decision, stressed the budget for the burial must not be from the collected taxes.
“No public propose is served by transferring his remains to LNMB and public funds cannot be used for this purpose,” he said.
Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Information Office (AFP-PIO) Chief Col. Edgard Arevalo said the Marcos family only requested for a simple soldier’s burial ceremony.
Definitely meron tayong volleys of fire na papuputukin, meron tayong sounding of the tops and then yung kanyang Philippine flag drill; casket, ifo-fold yun ng ating honor guard, and it will be presented to the spouse or next of kin,” Arevalo added.
Tuloy na tuloy na ito. Hindi naman bonggang-bongga ang inaasahan. Simpleng paglilibing lang ng isang kawal, isang sundalo,” Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos earlier said in a television interview.
Members of the Marcos family have not yet set a date for the burial.
