Mar Roxas on defeat in May 13 polls: “Disappointing, sad but ganyan talaga ang buhay”

(Eagle News)–Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas on Wednesday, May 22, formally accepted his defeat in the recently concluded May 13 polls.

“Well, we didn’t make it. Disappointing and sad but ganyan talaga ang buhay,” Roxas, who landed in 16th place in the final tally, well outside the winning circle, said in a statement.

Roxas nevertheless  thanked his supporters for their hard work, trust, support and sacrifice.

He said he was “so very humbled and honored to have been in the trenches and frontline with you all.”

As to what his plans were, Roxas said so far, he was unsure about what to do.

“For now, I encourage you to do what I’m going to do – hug my family, nurture them, learn some more, work some more, love some more… in short, try to live life to the fullest,” he said.

“In this way, we can revive our spirit, and get strong. Our country continues to need us and our best efforts,” he added.

This is the third time Roxas ran in the elections but failed.

In 2010, he ran for vice president with Benigno Aquino III as his running mate for president, but was defeated by Jejomar Binay.

In 2016, he ran for president but he lost to then-Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The 12 winning senators were proclaimed by the Commission on Elections on Wednesday, May 22.
