Many roads in Metro Manila flooded because of heavy rains

(Eagle News) – Major roads in Metro Manila, particularly in the city of Manila, were flooded after heavy rains experienced since Thursday night.

The rains were brought about by Typhoon Butchoy which enhanced the Southwest Monsoon or “hanging habagat” in the local dialect.

One of the reasons seen for the floods are the drainage projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways which had been left unfinished.

Heavy equipment and construction materials were left along the roads affecting people.

Some even set up makeshift “bridges” just so people could pass through.

Meanwhile, the Bay Walk area along Roxas Boulevard in Manila were swamped with garbage tossed onto land by angry waves.

Classes were mostly suspended in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon.

Government employees were also told to go home at 1 p.m.

This was after Malacanang suspended work in government offices and classes in public schools at all levels in Metro Manila effective 1 p.m. Friday. (From a report by Erwin Temperante, Eagle News Service)
