MANILA, Dec. 7 – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar and Department of Transportation Secretary Art Tugade announced today that the construction of a pedestrian bridge directly connecting Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 (T3) with Newport City is on track and due to open in the first half of 2017.

“Once completed, Runway Manila will allow the average person to walk the distance between the airport and Newport City in less than ten minutes,” Villar said.

“Runway Manila is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 persons at any time, or up to 216,000 individuals per day. The bridge is for the benefit and free use of the public,” he added.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), NAIA T3 has the capacity to handle 13M international passengers annually.

“The Duterte Administration is fully committed not only to reduce vehicular traffic congestion but also to ensure mobility and liveability of our cities. Rest assured, this will not be the last. There would be more bicycle lanes, pedestrian-friendly facilities constructed,” Tugade said.

“It is a privilege to collaborate with the government to enhance the overall travel experience in our country,” said Kingson Sian, President and CEO, Travellers International Hotel Group. “Runway Manila is part of our commitment to champion Philippine tourism and to contribute in nation building.”

Runway Manila will be an enclosed, air-conditioned bridge, with PWD-friendly facilities such as moving walkways and elevators. It will have a modern, eye-catching design, which may be an iconic landmark in the Pasay City skyline.

Runway Manila is a 220-meter elevated bridge that stands 17.8 meters above Andrews Ave. The project is developed in cooperation with Travellers International Hotel Group. (DPWH)
