Manila mayor confirms lockdown of Sampaloc area as the city’s COVID-19 cases rise to 445

Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso confirmed that the Sampaloc area will be placed under lockdown, as the city’s health department reported 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, April 19, bringing the total to 445.

(Eagle News) – Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso confirmed that a lockdown will be implemented in the Sampaloc area, as the city reports 445 cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, April 19.

A statement posted in the Facebook page of the Manila Public Information Office quoted Domagoso as saying that authorities are still “planning it carefully” and that “[t]he schedule of the lockdown is yet to be announced.”

The announcement came as the Manila Health Department (MHD) reported 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the city, bringing the total to 445.

The MHD also reported 57 recoveries and 48 deaths, with 680 suspected case and 1 probable case.

Ninety eight (98) of the confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded at the Sampaloc area, which also listed 158 suspected cases.

This is followed by Tondo 1 (53 cases); Tondo 2 (47 cases); Sta Cruz (37 cases); and San Andres (32 cases).

The city government of Manila had earlier imposed a 24-hour total lockdown in Barangay 20 at Tondo, Manila, after residents were caught engaging in boxing, bingo and other leisure activities in violation of the enhanced community quarantine.
