(Eagle News)–The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines on Friday, April 19, placed the Luzon and Visayas grids under red and yellow alerts.
This marked the fourth consecutive time the grid operator raised the alerts amid power supply issues.
According to the NGCP, the yellow alert was up over Luzon a yellow alert will be raised on the country’s largest island from noon to 3 p.m., 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The red alert was hoisted over the island from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, the yellow alert status was raised over the Visayas grid from noon to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A red alert is issued when power supply cannot meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement.
A yellow alert, on the other hand, is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
According to the NGCP, 2,284.3 megawatts (MW) of power supply were unavailable to the Luzon grid.
Nineteen power plants were on forced outage while three others were on derated capacities.
In the Visayas, 736.7MW of supply were unavailable, with 15 power plants out and 10 others were with a reduced output.
