(Eagle News)–The Light Rail Transit-1 Cavite extension project is expected to be partially operational by the end of 2021.

The Department of Transportation said this was with its  right-of-way acquisition almost 100 percent complete, with the remaining obstructions now only consisting of one Maynilad pipe, telco and cable facilities of six companies, and various other ancillary facilities.

Only 18 lots have to be acquired, and these are owned by three landowners, DOTr said.

According to Maynilad, the DOTr said, relocation of the obstructing 1100-mm. pipe now only requires a permit to be issued by the Cavite Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), operator of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway or CAVITEx.

The DOTr said during a meeting with the Toll Regulatory Board, CIC committed to issue the permit to Maynilad before November 1.

The DOTr said it was also confident there will be no delays to the project, following the commitment to the effect of each party.

“Removal of other obstructing ancillary facilities, such as plant boxes, lamp posts, traffic signals, and CCTVs is also on track, with the assistance extended by Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez in completing the clearing works,” the DOTr said.

It added permits to start work for the 18 remaining lots are expected to be issued within October by the three landowners, namely the Philippine Reclamation Authority for 16 lots, Puregold for one lot, and D.M. Wenceslao for one lot.

“With the cooperation of all the above stakeholders, the 19-years delayed LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project, which is expected to service up to 800,000 per day, is finally on track to partial operations by the end of 2021,” DOTr said.
