LPA within PAR develops into tropical depression “Neneng”; Signal No. 1 hoisted over Batanes

(Eagle News)–The low pressure area spotted north of Basco, Batanes has developed into a Tropical Depression, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

According to PAGASA, as of 10 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression “Neneng” was located 120 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes, within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“Neneng” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

It is expected to move south southwest at 10 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said a tropical cyclone signal number one has been hoisted over Batanes with occasional rains with gusty winds  expected.

The trough of “Neneng” will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Babuyan Group of Islands, and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte and Apayao.

“Mangkhut,” which is still outside PAR, may enter PAR on Wednesday, PAGASA said.
