Storm signals hoisted over two areas as “Falcon” moves northward

(Eagle News)–The low pressure area near Ilocos Sur may develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours,  the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said, while  Tropical Storm “Falcon”   maintained its strength as it moved northward on Thursday morning.

PAGASA said as of 4 a.m., the LPA was located 265 kilometers west of Sinait.

The eye of “Falcon” on the other hand was located 230 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility this evening.

“Falcon” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 65 km per hour  near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km per hour.

It is moving  at 20 km per hour.

Signal No. 2 remains in place in Batanes, while the Signal No. 1 hoisted over the northern portion of Aurora has been lifted, but it remains up over the Babuyan group of islands.

Today, moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, PAGASA said.

Meanwhile,  light to moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

“Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions,” the weather bureau said.

It said sea travel was risky  over the seaboards of areas under storm signals, the seaboards of Luzon, and the western and eastern seaboards of Visayas.
