Lawyers’ group condemns killing of former Cebu prosecutor

(Eagle News) — A group of lawyers in Cebu condemned the killing of a former prosecutor on Thursday, Jan. 19.

“Justice cannot be attained by another act of injustice…Killing another person is not the resolution of a problem..Never can it be and never will it be,” Mundlyn Martin, Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu chapter president, said in a statement issued after the killing of Mary Ann Castro.

Castro was shot dead by a still-unidentified assailant as she was driving her vehicle on Escario St. in Barangay Kabutao on Thursday night.

The police have said they were looking into the cases she worked on as an assistant prosecutor, and were looking at her former relationship with a police officer, who was killed in a buy-bust operation in Bohol on June 27.

Martin called on authorities to probe the case, expressing hope the “culprit” would be found behind bars.

“I pray that this case will not be part of all others, who remains unresolved until the present (sic),” she said.
