(Eagle News)–President Bongbong Marcos has signed a law creating a new Department of Public Works and Highways district engineering office in Zamboanga City.
According to Republic Act No. 11994 signed by the President on April 4, the new engineering district will be known as the Zamboanga City First District Engineering Office.
It will be located in the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone – Zamboanga Freeport Authority in Barangay Talisayan.
The Secretary of Public Works and Highways shall include in the department’s program the operationalization of the Zamboanga City First and Second District Engineering Offices, the funding of which will come from the annual General Appropriations Act, according to the law.
Prior to the signing, the House of Representatives passed the measure proposing the creation of the district office on March 21, 2023, while the Senate passed its version on November 2, 2023.
The law takes effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
