Lascañas slapped with murder raps over broadcaster Jun Pala slay

(Eagle News)– Retired policeman Arturo Lascañas is facing murder and frustrated murder charges stemming from the two attempts on broadcaster Juan “Jun” Pala’s life and his killing in 2003.

The cases were filed at the Davao City Regional Trial Court last Thursday (June 1), this after the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause for the criminal charges filed against him over the attempts on Pala’s life in June 2002 and April 2003, and his killing in September 2003.

Lascañas, a retired police official, is also facing a probe by the National Bureau of Investigation over his claims about the existence of vigilante group Davao Death Squad (DDS).

Lascañas, who alleges he led the group, had made the claims during a Senate inquiry in March.

He said that the DDS killings were at the behest of then-Davao City mayor and now-President Rodrigo Duterte.

In October last year, Lascañas denied the existence of the DDS before the Senate.

He later said he was only forced to do this due to fear for his life and his family’s.

Lascañas left the country on April 8.
