Lacson urges Gordon to appoint sub-committee to tackle death penalty

(Eagle News) — Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday (December 12) urged Senator Richard Gordon to create a subcommittee that will tackle the reimposition of the death penalty on ‘heinous crimes.’

“My suggestion is for him to appoint or create a subcommittee who’s willing to defend the bill on the floor and even conduct committee hearings,” Lacson said.

Senator Gordon, who chairs the Committee on Justice handling the revival of the capital punishment, is against the death penalty.

“I don’t know how he will defend the bill kasi sinabi rin niya he’s against the death penalty. I don’t know,” he said.

Senator Lacson, one of the authors of the bill believes that the death penalty should be reimposed for it would help to prevent more heinous crimes, including drug activities.
