Lacson: Three more drug lords released under RA 10592

(Eagle News)–Senator Panfilo Lacson on Friday, Aug. 30, said three more drug lords were released due to the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law or Republic Act 10592.

In an interview over radio dzbb, Lacson said  a Taiwanese drug lord was released from the Davao Penal Colony, while the other two were released from Palawan.

He said the three were apart from the five Chinese drug lords who were released from the New Bilibid Prison in June and are now the subject of deportation proceedings.

According to Lacson, he would ask Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, who supervises the Bureau of Corrections, about whether or not it was possible to suspend the deportation proceedings and return the Chinese drug lords to the NBP.

Lacson said this was since Guevarra himself has already ordered the processing and computation of GCTA suspended pending a review of the guidelines for the same and of the implementing rules and regulations of RA 10592.

He said he also wanted to look into the profile of the convicts being released.

“Ano ang background nila? Ano ang kakayahan nila? Kasi kung naiiwan doon ang walang kakayanan at ang makapag-avail lang ng GCTA ang maykaya, maski papaano mag-iisip tayo,” he said.

The Senate has scheduled a hearing on the GCTA law on Monday, Sept. 2.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senate President Tito Sotto and Senator Richard Gordon each earlier filed similar resolutions to review the law which the Supreme Court ruled in June should be applied retroactively.
