Lacson says PHL recall of envoys in Canada “not enough,” wants names of “facilitators” of trash dumping

(Eagle News)—Although Senator Panfilo Lacson welcomed the  Philippines’ recall of its ambassador and its consuls after Canada missed the May 15 deadline to ship back its trash, he said this was “not enough.”

In a  Tweet, Lacson said the Philippines would do well to “find out who facilitated” the dumping of the trash as well “so we can dump them at sea halfway to Canada.”

“National dignity is part and parcel of diplomacy. Allowing Canada to dump their toxic garbage here is submitting to their arrogance and misplaced superiority,” he said.

Lacson made the suggestion after Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin announced the recall of the envoys, which he said had been triggered by Canada’s failure to show up at a meeting with the Bureau of Customs, which had intercepted the trash in a Manila port six years ago.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to declare war against  Canada if it did not recall the shipment, which continues to languish in a landfill in Tarlac.

Canada, through its embassy in the Philippines, in response, said it was open to discussing the issues involved in the trash shipment, a statement the Palace later slammed as “vague.”
