JUST IN: “Tisoy” makes landfall in Gubat, Sorsogon; typhoon slightly intensifies

(Eagle News)–Typhoon “Tisoy” has made landfall in Sorsogon and has slightly intensified, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

According to PAGASA, “Tisoy” was last spotted in the coastal waters of Gubat, packing maximum sustained winds of 175  kph near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

It is moving west at 15 kph.

PAGASA said Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Romblon, and southern portion of Quezon (Perez, Alabat, Quezon, Mauban, Sampaloc, Lucban, Tayabas, Pagbilao, Lucena, Sariaya, Candelaria, Dolores, Tiaong, San Antonio, Atimonan, Padre Burgos, Agdangan, Plaridel, Unisan, Pitogo, Gumaca, Lopez, Macalelon, General Luna, Calauag, Guinayangan, Tagkawayan, Buenavista, Mulanay, San Narciso, San Francisco, San Andres), Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna are under Signal No. 3.

The same goes for Northern Samar, northern portion of Eastern Samar (Can-avid, Dolores, Maslog, Oras, Arteche, Jipapad, San Policarpio), and the northern portion of Samar (Catbalogan, Jiabong, Motiong, Paranas, San Jose de Buan, San Jorge, Pagsanghan, Tarangnan, Sta. Margarita, Gandara, Matuguinao, Calbayog, Tagapul-an, Almagro, Sto. Niño)

Signal No. 2, on the other hand, is hoisted over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, southern Aurora (Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Baler, San Luis, Dingalan), Rizal, rest of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands (Cuyo, Magsaysay, Agutaya), Zambales, and Pangasinan, the rest of Eastern Samar, rest of Samar, Biliran, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, northern portion of Negros Occidental (Talisay, Calatrava, Silay, Enrique B. Magalona, Victorias, Manapla, Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante, Toboso, Bacolod, Murcia, Salvador Benedicto, San Carlos, Bago, Pulupandan, Valladolid, La Carlota, San Enrique, Pontevedra, La Castellana, Moises Padilla), Northern Cebu (Daanbantayan, Bantayan, Madridejos, Santa Fe, Medellin, Bogo City, San Remigio, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Tuburan, Carmen Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Asturias, and Camotes Islands), and Leyte.

Southern Isabela (Palanan, Dinapigue, San Mariano, San Guillermo, Benito Soliven, Naguilian, Reina Mercedes, Luna, Aurora, Cabatuan, San Mateo, Cauayan City, Alicia, Angadanan, Ramon, San Isidro, Echague, Cordon, Santiago City, Jones and San Agustin), Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Quirino, rest of Aurora, northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, San Vicente, Roxas), the rest  of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Bohol, Siquijor, rest of Cebu, and Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands and Siargao Island are under Signal No. 1.

PAGASA said the eyewall of “Tisoy” is currently bringing violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall over Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon.

Camarines Norte and Masbate will be affected by the eyewall in the next two to three hours, PAGASA said.

Between tonight and tomorrow noon, PAGASA said frequent to continuous heavy to intense (with isolated torrential) rains are forecast over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Occasional to frequent heavy rains are expected over Samar, Eastern Samar, Rizal, rest of Quezon, Laguna, and Oriental Mindoro, while intermittent heavy rains are expected over Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, the rest of CALABARZON, Aurora, rest of Eastern Visayas, and the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela.

Between tomorrow morning and Wednesday morning, PAGASA said frequent to continuous heavy to intense (with isolated torrential) rains are expected over CALABARZON, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Occasional to frequent heavy rains are also forecast over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Calamian Islands, with intermittent heavy rains over Aklan, Capiz, and northern Antique.

Storm surges of more than 3.0 meters may affect several coastal areas in Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, while surges of up to 3 meters may affect  several coastal areas in Batangas, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky over the seaboards of areas under storm signals, the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the western seaboard of Palawan, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions.

Gusty conditions may also be experienced in areas in Northern Luzon that are not under any storm signal (especially in the coastal and mountainous zones) due to the northeast monsoon.
