JUST IN: Third case of polio since disease resurgence in PHL recorded in Maguindanao

(Eagle News) — A third case of polio since over a decade has been recorded in the Philippines.

The Department of Health said the case involved a four-year-old female from Datu Piang, Maguindanao who did not receive any dose of the oral polio vaccine.

The DOH said the case was initially reported as a case of acute flaccid paralysis after consultation at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center.

In September, the DOH declared a polio outbreak following the resurgence of polio after 19 years.

The Philippines had been declared polio-free in October 2000.

The first case since the resurgence involved a 3-year-old girl in Lanao del Sur.
