(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the “stoppage” of all forms of gambling including lotto.
“I have ordered today the closure, stoppage of games, schemes, whatever nature, however done, that got their franchises to do so from the (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office)” Duterte said in a video posted on RTVM’s YouTube account.
According to Duterte, the ground for the stoppage was “massive corruption.”
He ordered the military and the police to implement his directive, which he said covers lotto, STL, peryahan ng bayan and keno.
He said beginning tomorrow, all such transactions and wagers would be illegal.
“I have to do it..puro dayaan lang. Ang nga kontrata, crafted to favor corruption and to favor other corporations,” Duterte said, without elaborating.
He said the courts were also involved.
“I will not allow it,” Duterte said, saying he would not “honor” any court that would stop him from probing the corruption, or that would enjoin him from implementing his stoppage order.
