JUST IN: DOH declares measles outbreak in NCR

(Eagle News) — The Department of Health on Wednesday, Feb. 6, declared an outbreak of measles in Metro Manila.

In a television interview, Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo said it was Health Secretary Francisco Duque III who made the declaration this afternoon, after seeing the number of suspected cases in the National Capital Region.

As of Feb. 2, Domingo said there were 861 suspected measles cases in the NCR, a number that was “quite high.”

He said the cities with the highest number of suspected measles cases were Quezon City, Manila, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasig, Navotas, Paranaque and Pasay.

“One of the factors (for measles) ay ang low coverage of measles vaccination so teams are now going around in these cities to do outbreak management,” Domingo said.

He also called on the public to allow their children to be vaccinated to ensure they would not be affected.
