Caloocan court metes out guilty verdict on policemen accused of killing Kian delos Santos

Dismisses planting of evidence cases vs them, though

(Eagle News) — A Caloocan court has found the three policemen accused of killing Kian delos Santos guilty of the crime, and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua.

Branch 125 Judge Rodolfo Azucena also ordered  P03 Arnel Oares, P01 Jerwin Cruz and P01 Jeremias Pereda to pay P100,000 in civil damages, P100,000 in moral damages, P45,000 in actual damages and P100,000 exemplary damages.

Azucena, however, dismissed the two cases for planting of evidence filed against the three policemen.

The 17-year-old Delos Santos was killed in what police said was an anti-drug operation, but footage from a closed-circuit television camera and witness accounts showed he was dragged in alleys and into a corner and shot.

His killing prompted critics to condemn the administration’s drug war, but the government said Delos Santos’ case was merely isolated.
