JUST IN: Alert Level 2 hoisted over Sudan; Filipinos barred from traveling to country due to civil unrest

(Eagle News)–The Department of Foreign Affairs has raised an Alert Level II over Sudan.

In an advisory, the DFA said the alert, which is issued if there are “real threats to the lives, security, and properties of Filipinos due to instability in a particular country,” has been in effect since June 7.

With the alert raised, the department said all Filipinos should not travel to Sudan  due to ongoing civil unrest in Khartoum and other areas.

Filipinos who remain in the country, on the other hand, are advised to “restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places, and prepare for evacuation.”

The DFA said the Department of Labor and Employment will only allow the return of OFWs in that country if they have existing employment contracts and “in consideration of other special circumstances.”

Filipinos in Sudan  may contact the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, through telephone numbers (+202) 252-13062 or through its Facebook page if they need assistance.

They may also contact the Philippine Honorary Consul in Khartoum at (+249) 183-468717 or (+249) 183-468716.
