Isko Moreno poised to win Manila mayoralty race

(Eagle News)–Isko Moreno is poised to win the mayoralty race in Manila, as he continued to lead by a wide margin his closest rival, reelectionist Mayor Joseph Estrada, based on partial results.

As of 10 p.m., Moreno had 331,409 votes vis à vis Estrada’s 193,773, a whopping 137,636 lead with more than 80 percent of precinct results coming in.

Former Mayor Alfredo Lim was a far third, with 127,920 votes.

Based on the partial results, Moreno is poised to effectively dislodge two veteran politicians who have had much experience in the political scene.

Apart from being Manila mayor, Estrada  served as President of the country.

Lim, for his part, was  a two-term Manila mayor who also served in the Senate from 2004 to 2007.

Moreno had vowed to “clean up” Manila, and to restore it to its former glory.

“Managing waste is my expertise since I was once a garbage collector when I was a high school student,” he had said.
