(Eagle News) — The spokesperson of the Iglesia Ni Cristo said letters being circulated in the social media about the supposed endorsement of the INC for presidential candidate Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte is “fraudulent”.

INC minister Edwil Zabala said the said letter did not come from the INC. He said that the Church would also charge in court the person responsible for the fraudulent letter.

“The letter is not from Brother Eduardo Manalo,” Zabala said.

“The moment we identify the person/s responsible for this fraudulent ‘letter’ containing the forged signature of Brother Eduardo Manalo, we will charge them in court,” he said.

Hindi po ganyan ang mga termino natin.  Panloloko ito ng tao.  May forgery pa sa pirma,” he said referring to the forged signature of the INC Executive Minister.

“They should not have resorted to that.  They should have just waited for the actual announcement of the Executive Minister for the members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo,” Zabala said referring to those who made up the letter and distributed it to social media.

The INC spokesperson said the INC members are peaceful and patient in waiting for whatever will be the INC Administration’s decision on whom they would vote for.

Payapa lang kaming naghihintay.  We are patiently and peacefully waiting for the decision of our Administration on whom we will be voting for.  The moment we receive that decision — since we are fully convinced about the biblical basis for upholding unity — we will abide by that decision,” he said.

One of the prominent pages that shared the fake letter was “Bisaya Republic” which trumpeted the supposed INC endorsement.

Zabala said the INC had not yet made any public pronouncements on the candidates who will get the INC’s support.  He said this will be first made known to the INC brethren, before it would be revealed to those outside of the Church.

“And the way we are going to be informed of this decision is not through social media,” he stressed.
