(Eagle News)—The Bureau of Immigration has detained the Chinese national who splashed a cup of taho on a police officer who was merely explaining to her the Metro Rail Transit ban on liquids over the weekend.
BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said Zhang Jiale, who had just posted bail for the direct assault charged filed in court against her, was taken into custody by immigration agents on Tuesday, Feb. 12, by virtue of a mission order signed by immigration commissioner Jaime Morente.
“Zhang has already been charged as an undesirable alien for posing as a risk to public interest,” Sandoval said, noting that the “incident showed her disrespect towards persons of authority, which in turn shows her disrespect to the country.”
According to Sandoval, the immigration case was different from the court case.
She said if Zhang was “found deportable,” though, “we will wait for the resolution of her court case before implementing the deportation.”
She said the BI board of commissioners will decide her case in the next few weeks.
Zhang is currently detained at the BI facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending the deportation proceedings.
