House panel approves reso providing for longer terms for some solons, election of President and VP in tandem

(Eagle News) — A House panel on Wednesday, Dec. 12, approved a resolution amending the Constitution to include, among others, longer terms for all local government officials and district representatives.

The resolution approved by the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments reportedly during an executive session also provided for the election of three senators by region and the election of the president and vice president in tandem.

Earlier, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, committee chair, said the panel would convene to vote after the completion of its public consultations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

“We will make a decision on proposals for which the people have expressed support in our consultations and public hearings,” he had said.

He had said among those that had gained popular support was the proposal to scrap foreign ownership restrictions on land and businesses.
