Updated: I will continue to fight corruption, drug menace, Duterte tells OFWs in Malaysia

(Eagle News) — President Duterte arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Wednesday night and proceeded to the Mandarin Hotel where he addressed the Filipino community there.

Before his speech, Filipino-Malaysian singers first sang his favorite songs, “Ikaw” and “You Raised Me Up.”  At one point, the President even gamely sang along.

In his speech to the Filipino community, the President said that corruption was the main problem that had hampered the country’s development.

He said that this was why he is zeroing on eliminating corruption in his administration

“Ang pangako ko lang, walang corruption,” he said.

“I would like to be remembered as one who really tried to do something good for the country,” he said.

The President said he cannot also evade the issue of his fight against drugs.

“If you destroy the youth of my land, I will kill you,” he said as he stressed that he was “trying to save the Filipinos from perdition.”

He said there was nothing wrong with him making this threat.

He urged the Filipinos to be more assertive of their rights, especially now that he is the President.

“Maski saan kayo, be assertive,” he said.

Before this, Duterte again congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump for his victory.

He said Trump was like him.  They both like to curse, he said.

“Pareho kaming nagmumura.”
