Is seen to become severe tropical storm in 24 hours
(Eagle News)–Tropical Storm “Hanna” slightly intensified on Monday, Aug. 5, as it moved in a north northwestward direction.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 10 a.m., the center of the tropical storm was 875 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
“Hanna” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph, and is moving at 15 kph.
PAGASA said the tropical cyclone is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours.
According to the weather bureau, today and tomorrow, Aug. 6, moderate to heavy monsoon rains will be experienced over the northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, and Western Visayas.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and the rest of MIMAROPA and Visayas, on the other hand, PAGASA said.
It advised residents in those areas that are prone to floods and rain-induced landslides, “to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates..”
Fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the western seaboards of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to potentially rough sea condition, PAGASA said.
