Guevarra to NBI: Probe death of PMA cadet

(Eagle News)–Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to probe the death of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio.

Guevarra gave the order to NBI director Dante Gierran after the Philippine National Police said the Philippine Military Academy student had died due to injuries sustained from hazing.

Dormitorio was found unconscious inside a room in Mayo Hall Annex in Fort del Pilar, Baguio on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

He was  rushed to the PMA Station Hospital but was later declared dead.

Authorities have said they were looking at three suspects, and have ordered the   restrictive confinement of the upperclass and 4th class squadmates of Dormitorio.

“Further, Director Gierran is hereby directed to submit reports on the progress of the subject investigation and case buildup directly to the Office of the Secretary,” Guevarra said.

Lawmakers called for the strengthening of the Anti-Hazing law  following the 2017 death of University of Sto. Tomas law freshman Horacio Castillo III allegedly due to injuries sustained from Aegis Juris fraternity hazing rites.
