(Eagle News)–Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to probe corruption in the Bureau of Customs.
Guevarra’s directive to NBI director Dante Gierran was contained in Department Order No. 383 issued on Friday, July 26.
His order came days after President Rodrigo Duterte railed against corruption and illegal drugs in his fourth State of the Nation Address.
“Further, Director Gierran is hereby directed to submit reports on the progress of the subject investigation and case build-up directly to the Office of the Secretary,” the order said.
Duterte, when he was still Davao mayor, vowed to end corruption in the country if elected President in the 2016 elections.
