Guevarra: No deportation of Chinese drug lords released from NBP pending review of IRR of RA 10592, guidelines for processing GCTA

(Eagle News)–Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday, Aug. 30, said the four Chinese convicts who were released from the New Bilibid Prison  will be held if they are still in Bureau of Immigration custody.

Guevarra said Chan Chit Yue,  Kin San Ho, Ching Che and Wu Hing Sum shall be held until the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 10592, which increases the Good Conduct Time Allowances given to inmates,  and the guidelines for the processing and computing of the same, have been reviewed.

Guevarra and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año instructed the review in a joint order  following outrage over the reported possible release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez, who was convicted of the murder and rape of Aileen Sarmenta, and the murder of her friend Allan Gomez.

According to Guevarra, the five Chinese nationals shall also be held until  “the joint committee has determined the proper course of action with respect to those (persons deprived of liberty) convicted of heinous crimes who might have already been released.”

Earlier, the BI confirmed that the Chinese nationals were in their custody and were subject to deportation.

Lacson said apart from the Chinese drug lords, three other drug lords–one from Davao and two others from Palawan–were released under the GCTA law.

The Senate is slated to hold a hearing on the matter on Monday, Sept. 2.
