Guevarra: If Trillanes has proof he applied for amnesty, he may show this in court

(Eagle News) — If Senator Antonio Trillanes has proof he applied for amnesty, then he can show this in court if he challenges the amnesty revocation, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Speaking to ANC, Guevarra said this document, after all, was “what seems to be missing.”

Under Proclamation No. 572, President Rodrigo Duterte voided the amnesty granted to Trillanes, noting a certification from the Armed Forces of the Philippines that said that his application was “not available.”

Duterte added Trillanes failed to make an express admission of his guilt in the Oakwood mutiny and Manila Peninsula siege in 2003 and 2007 respectively.

Trillanes’ camp, however, refuted this, pointing at news articles in which he was quoted as saying that “we are man enough to admit that we have broken rules.”

Guevarra, however, has said  there must be an “express admission of guilt to the offense of coup d’etat” and not just uprising, “because the elements may be different.”
