Gov’t to local officials: Don’t abuse your authority

(Eagle News) — A Palace official on Monday, March 23, warned local officials against abusing their authority.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles issued the warning in a televised briefing amid reports some local officials were charging people for the quarantine pass.

Nograles reiterated the quarantine passes should be issued free of charge.

“Huwag po nating abusuhin yan at huwag po tayong magtake advantage sa calamity na to dahil maaari yung maximum penalty pa po ang maaaring isampa po laban sa inyo,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has imposed an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon to arrest the spread of COVID-19.

Duterte has also called on Congress to hold a special session so he could be given the necessary powers that are restricted but for a limited period to address the situation.
