Gov’t extends PNR line from Tutuban, Manila to Los Baños, Laguna

(Eagle News) — The Philippine National Railways has formally extended its rail services to Los Banos, Laguna.

In a statement, the Department of Transportation said this was made possible by the addition of new stations and a new train set from Japan.

From Tutuban, Manila, the PNR line now extends to  Pansol, Masili, Los Baños, College, and the International Rice Research Institute, after the Calamba station.

The fare from Tutuban to Los Banos is P150.

The train set from Japan, on the other hand, consists of three coaches and can accommodate 81 passengers.

“Passengers can enjoy reclining and rotating seats, stowable tables, leg rests, and a comfort room inside the train,” the DOTr said.

Transportation Secretary Art Tugade hailed the PNR for its efforts to reach more people outside of Metro Manila.

“Umpisa pa lamang po ito, dahil marami pa pong ihahandog ang PNR na makakaabot ang riles sa iba’t ibang parte ng bansa,” Tugade said.

Apart from the train set from Japan, two new train sets will be arriving from Indonesia next week.

The train sets will be included in the PNR line under the Tutuban – FTI and Malabon – FTI routes, the DOTr said.

Thirty-one more coaches are slated to be delivered from December to February 2020, the agency added.
