Free bus rides for healthcare workers, APORs along EDSA starting today

(Eagle News) — Edsa Busway public utility buses under the government’s service contracting program will give free rides to healthcare workers and authorized persons outside of residences starting today, April 7.

The Department of Transportation said this was in response to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade’s call  to provide additional assistance to that particular sector during the enhanced community quarantine, where the movement of people is limited.

The ECQ in the Greater Manila Area has been extended to at least one week, after April 4.

According to the DOTr, APORs and healthcare workers only need to present identification cards that show the establishments where they work.

The DOTr said the buses are apart from the free rides given by jeepneys plying 50 routes in Metro Manila and other nearby regions.

The DOTr also urged commuters to download the Sakay.ph app to see in real time the vehicles used under the service contracting program.

The department said they may also rate the program and the driver so the government may provide the corresponding additional incentives to those who perform well.
