Former VP Binay, son post bail in allegedly rigged bidding of Makati City Science High School case

(Eagle News)–Former Vice President Jejomar Binay and his son, former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, posted bail on Monday in connection with the allegedly rigged bidding of the Makati City Science High School project.

The two Binays posted bail of P190,000 each before the Fifth Division, pre-empting the issuance of a warrant of arrest against them over the P1.35-billion project.

In a statement, Joey Salgado, the Binays’ spokesperson, said that the Ombudsman’s indictment was “baseless and frivolous, a product of her obsession to malign the Binays in total disregard of facts, constitutional rights and established jurisprudence.”

He noted that the signing of documents in connection with the project was done in good faith, since heads of offices rely in large part on their subordinates.

“The Ombudsman is a former justice of the Supreme Court. We find it difficult to accept that she is oblivious to the existence of the Arias doctrine,” Salgado said, referring to Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.

The Ombudsman have accused the Binays of forging documents to make it appear there were no other bidders for the 10-phase project, which was awarded to  Hilmarc’s Construction Corp.
