(Eagle News)–Former Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. is “fighting for his life” after his vehicle was ambushed in San Carlos, Pangasinan on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

In a Tweet, Senator Richard Gordon said all five of Espino’s bodyguards “perished” as they shielded him from the attack made by a still-unidentified assailant at 4:30 p.m.

Police Colonel Red Maranan, director of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said, however, that two of Espino’s bodyguards were killed and two others were wounded.

The police said Espino and his group were passing through Barangay Magtaking when the incident happened.

Gordon said their  Toyota Innova had no “back-up.”

Espino was rushed to a nearby hospital.

“This is completely unacceptable in this day and age, yet it happens with impunity. The police should be able to track down the perpetrators if they act fast,” Gordon said.
